Winemaker Update — February 27, 2026
Vineyard Update — February 27, 2026
This morning, Winemaker Spencer Jones inspected Iron Hub’s Sauvignon Blanc vineyard for early signs of the growing season.
In late February 2026, warm spring temperatures prevail in Amador County, and buds are starting to respond. As a result, these buds are beginning to swell—a crucial phase in the vineyard’s annual cycle. Once the buds reach this stage, the team will begin pruning. This will delay bud break by approximately 2 weeks. The precise timing is a key strategy for frost protection. In our area, frost can occur as late as early April, posing a serious threat to the buds. By postponing bud break as long as possible, the vineyard team aims to protect the emerging buds. Of course, Mother Nature ultimately controls the situation.
A New Release Worth Celebrating
Alongside the excitement in the vineyard, Spencer is especially enthusiastic about Iron Hub’s newly released 2023 Sauvignon Blanc. The 2023 vintage was notably cool, allowing the grapes to develop exceptional balance and character. The result is a wine with bright, vibrant acidity, intense tropical aromas, and expressive fresh flavors complemented by a lush, refined texture — a beautiful reflection of the season in the glass.
We invite you to visit Iron Hub Winery to experience the new release and follow along as the 2026 growing season unfolds.
Cheers!
