What do winemakers do during the winter months?
Update from Winemakers: Tom and Spencer
November 2024 has been cool and wet, shifting our vines into dormancy and rest for the winter months ahead. Nearly four inches of rainfall have soaked our soils, perfect for establishing our recently seeded cover crop!
Tasks shift from the vineyard to the cellar, where Tom and Spencer are busy blending the new vintage. The warm weather of the 2024 vintage provided bright, intense flavors with bold tannins. This vintage had exceptionally bright fruit flavors, producing vibrant acidity and a crisp finish. Our white wines were the first to be placed in French oak barrels. Now, we are tasting and blending the 2024 red wines before barrel aging.
Our blending begins in the lab, where small-scale blends are handcrafted for each varietal. Once perfected, the new red blends will be moved to barrels. Exciting times!
