Recap of the Harvest 2024: Warm Temperatures Accelerate the Pace

Spencer Jones Winemaker

The 2024 harvest brought busy days, with bins packed with grapes, presses flowing with aromatic juice, and tanks filled with new wine!

This year’s harvest also involved a developing transition that is special: Tom has entrusted Spencer with the lead role in winemaking during harvest and crush while he happily takes on a supportive position. It fills Tom with pride to see Spencer step up so expertly and take charge!

Kudos to Tom, Spencer, Elise, and our fabulous Crush Crew for their incredible work on the 2024 vintage!

Due to the warm, dry weather during the growing season, our 2024 harvest spanned just six weeks. It began with the hand-picking of our estate Sauvignon Blanc grapes on September 2 and concluded with our estate Aglianico grapes, picked on October 29. Spencer expressed, “We are extremely proud to cultivate 95% of our grapes.”

The elevated temperatures were some of the warmest we have ever seen during harvest and led to a surge in the grapes’ sugar levels. However, the fruit remained acidic, prompting Spencer to allow for longer hang time before harvesting. Due to the heat, we had concerns about grape shriveling, but proper irrigation and careful canopy management preserved the grape clusters, yielding outstanding quality with vibrant fruit and bright acidity.

The 2024 vintage is currently resting in the cellar and shows great promise. Spencer remarked, “Every vintage has something special to appreciate; I think this vintage is exceptional!” It is now time to begin the blending process, and Spencer looks forward to further exploring the wines of 2024 in the coming weeks. We will also start preparing the vineyard for winter to maximize the benefits of the upcoming seasonal rains.

Thank you for supporting our vine-to-bottle journey and being part of our Inner Circle.

Cheers!

Tom, Beth, and Spencer Jones
