Grilled Cheese and Wine Pairings

grilled cheese sandwich

April 12 is National Grilled Cheese Day, and there’s no better way to honor it than with a cheesy, gooey grilled sandwich alongside a delightful glass of Iron Hub wine! Here’s a list of our top three grilled cheese and wine pairings that are easy to whip up quickly!

Gruyère and Caramelized Onion Grilled Cheese with Iron Hub Sauvignon Blanc

Sweet caramelized onions and nutty Gruyère harmonize beautifully with our estate Sauvignon Blanc. This medium-bodied, fruit-forward wine is an excellent companion for semi-aged, medium-to-hard cheeses like Gruyère.

To create it: Caramelize the onions in butter over medium-high heat until they turn golden brown. Butter one side of two slices of your favorite bread. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium, adding a tablespoon of butter and a bit of cooking spray to avoid sticking. Place one slice of bread, butter side down, in the skillet, and layer it with Gruyère and caramelized onions. Top with the second slice of bread. Press down with a spatula and cook until golden brown. Flip halfway through and repeat on the reverse side. Open your Iron Hub Sauvignon Blanc bottle, pour into a glass, and enjoy!

Pear & Havarti Grilled Cheese Paired with Iron Hub Rosé

Our Rosé perfectly complements smooth, creamy Havarti cheese. The delightful texture and dry finish of our estate Rosé, along with the flavors of peach, nectarine, and strawberry, enhance grilled cheese made with Havarti.

To prepare it: Thinly slice a pear and mix it with a teaspoon of honey. Sear the pear in a pan for a few minutes until it softens and lightly caramelizes. Butter the bread slices, adding a teaspoon of Dijon mustard to one. Place in a nonstick skillet over medium heat, then layer with the pears, Havarti cheese, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Top with the other slice of bread and grill until perfectly toasted. Pour yourself a glass of Iron Hub Rosé and enjoy!

Fig and Brie Grilled Cheese with Iron Hub Chardonnay

A creamy, nutty Brie pairs beautifully with a medium-bodied white wine like our small lot Chardonnay. With apple, apricot, and pear notes, our Chardonnay exquisitely complements a rich Brie grilled cheese.

To make it: Cut French bread into ½-inch thick diagonal slices and butter one side of each. Spread a layer of fig jam on one slice. Heat your skillet, then place the bread butter-side down, layering with a slice of Brie and a sprinkle of fresh rosemary. Top with the slice spread with fig jam and grill until both sides are golden and crispy. Open a bottle of Iron Hub Chardonnay, relax, and enjoy each delectable bite!
